Phylogeography of red deer (Cervus elaphus) in Europe

چکیده
The patterns of genetic variation of present-day European terrestrial fauna and flora have been influenced by repetitive fluctuations between major glacial and interglacial climatic cycles that have occurred during the Quaternary period (Hewitt, 2004, and references therein). The isolation of species into one or more refugia during the glaciations (Hewitt, 1996) and the mode of post-glacial colonization (Ibrahim et al., 1996) are regarded as processes that are particularly influential Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES), Department of Biology, University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway, Zoologisches Institut, Christian-Albrechts-Universität, Kiel, Germany, Department of Animal and Plant Sciences, University of Sheffield, Sheffield, UK, Norwegian Institute for Nature Research, Trondheim, Norway, Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Regioni Lazio e Toscana Unità Specialistica di Medicina Forense Veterinaria Terrestre e Marina, Reiti, Italy and Department of Fish and Pet Animal Breeding, Faculty of Animal Science, University of Kaposvar, Kaposvar, Hungary

Phylogeography, population genetics and conservation of the European red deer Cervus elaphus
1. During the Last Glacial Maximum, European red deer Cervus elaphus occurred in refugia in Iberia/southern France, Italy, the Balkans and the Carpathians. Most of Europe, including large parts of the east and north-east, is now inhabited by red deer from the western lineage. The eastern lineage is largely confined to south-eastern Europe; a third lineage comprises Sardo-Corsican and Barbary re...

In order to have a good perspective of wild animals, it is necessary to determine their population and genetic structure. It provides an opportunity to decide on better conservation managements. In the wilderness, due to the escapable nature and sometimes not having the distinguishable bisexual appearance, sex identification could be difficult by observing animals. The X- and Y- chromosome link...
متن کاملControl of red deer (Cervus elaphus) stag domination in rut season by estrus synchronization
BACKGROUND: Inbreeding is one of the major problems of small size herds of red deer in refuge wildlife parks. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to use estrus synchronization technique in red deer (Cervus elaphus) based on natural mating to control the dominancy and social rank of stags and inbreeding. METHODS: In this study, hinds (n=6) were captured and caged at breeding season (ear...
متن کاملMicrosatellite Analysis DNA for Controlled Breeding of Cervidae and Genetic Breeding of White Colored Cervus elaphus in Czech Republic
A territorial isolation is a danger to the game population, causing deterioration called the inbreeding depression. The typical signs are anomalous body proportions, such as short lower jaw, shortened lifetime, weak physique and lower birth rate. This is caused by low number of game in the community. White colored deer is in the location of the CzechRepublicbred in separation since 18th century...
متن کاملSpiculopteragia asymmetrica Infection in Cervus elaphus from Iran
Spiculopteragia asymmetrica is a gastrointestinal nematode frequently found in the abomasum of cervids. During December and February 2010, two red deer were died in Semeskandeh sanctuary in Mazandaran province. Moreover, five live deer from mentioned area were treated by Ivermectin and collected feces of these animals were used for assessment helminthes infection by parasitological met...
متن کاملSeasonal habitat selection of the red deer (Cervus elaphus alxaicus) in the Helan Mountains, China
We studied the seasonal habitat selection of the red deer, Cervus elaphus alxaicus Bobrinskii & Flerov, 1935, in the Helan Mountains, China, from December 2007 to December 2008. Habitat selection varied widely by season. Seasonal movements between high and low elevations were attributed to changes in forage availability, alpine topography, the arid climate of the Helan Mountains, and potential ...
